Here are some helpful tricks of trade to help make your packing moving experience a little less frantic:
- Mark your boxes with the room name or number where the contents will belong in the new space. This will make it a lot easier to try and organize yourself in your new home or office, instead of having to dig through several boxes to try to find your items. Better yet, make sure to have a detailed inventory at hand.
- Do not over-pack or under-pack your boxes! Overpacking will make it harder to stack your boxes and may cause them to split, and underpacking will cause a box's top be crushed or dented. As a general rule: try to put heavier items in smaller boxes and lighter, bulkier items into larger boxes.
- Make sure to use ample amounts of packing tape, bubble wrap, newspapers - anything to cushion your items, most especially fragile ones.
- It's always best to use newer, sturdier boxes for your move. They withstand the moving process better, as well as protecting your items better from damage and mishandling.
- Don't procrastinate: try to finish packing by moving day. You'll have your hands full with so many other things come moving day. With the packing completed and out of the way, you'll have one less thing to worry about.
- If you decide to do your own packing, remember that you are responsible for any damage incurred. If you choose to have your packing done by your moving company, this shifts the liability from you to the company. Consequently, if you notice any obvious exterior damage upon packing up your goods, make a note of it right away.
