Moving Tips

Here we've gathered some useful tips for you from the pros. What to do before, during, and after your move. We hope you'll be able to incorporate some of our tips to facilitate and smoothen out your moving process.

  • Be sure to schedule your moves at a time most convenient for you, your family, and/or your office. We find that the best times for residential moves for our clients with children are during the summer, when school has finished and they can begin a new, fresh term come the fall. However, please keep in mind that summer is usually peak moving season, and movers may be stretched thin (especially in terms of equipment and personnel) to accommodate the demand.

  • Do some spring (or summer, or fall) cleaning! Before packing, decide which items you want to bring to your new destination, which items to donate, and which items to dispose of. Inspect your home or office location thoroughly to help make taking inventory easier.

  • Communicate any changes to your moving estimates or changes in your shipment to your mover as soon as possible. It will help you keep better track of your moving expenses and any additional charges for extra services you may require.

  • If your company is paying for relocation costs, find out how much of your expenses will be paid by your company.

  • Notify the post office that you will be moving. Provide them with a new address (permanent or temporary) so they will be able to forward your mail appropriately. Let friends, family, colleagues, and any other important contacts know of your new address so you can continue to keep in touch. For the children, a good activity might be to collect addresses of friends and relatives they may want to keep in touch with. Then, when they get to their new home, they can send them little notes telling them of their new address.
